GRUNDY CENTER — A 29-year-old pedestrian died following a Grundy Center accident Wednesday at a local convenience store.

Grundy Center woman Jean Newton, 77, was backing out from a parking stall at Casey’s, 504 G. Ave., when she hit pedestrian Anthony Guyer, shortly after 1 p.m.

As Newton’s vehicle accelerated it pinned Guyer between her car and a trailer on his work vehicle. Continuing to back up, the vehicle came to rest against the northeast wall of the store.

The Aplington man was taken to Grundy County Memorial Hospital and later transported by air ambulance to an Iowa City hospital, where he later died.

The accident remains under investigation by the Grundy Center Police Department.
