“As long as there are veterans, they will never be forgotten by the Elks Club members.”

These were the words of Marshalltown Elks Club 312 member Helen Sager in describing what the Iowa Elks Club Association members were doing as they served their annual fall pork roast meal to Iowa Veterans Home residents and their families on Oct. 19 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

According to VAC representative Bob Streeter, this is the 21st year for the annual pork roast meal. He said nearly 50 volunteers from Elks Clubs statewide help prepare and serve the meal along with four or five IVH volunteers.

“We serve a pork roast meal every October and a fish fry every April,” Streeter said. “The Elks Club is veteran and volunteer orientated, and this is won way we can remember and give back to the veterans.”

State President-elect Bob Burns of Iowa Falls said, “This is one of the good services provided by the Elks Club and I am honored that I could be here to be helping with it.”
