An 86-year-old Montour man was found dead on scene of a vehicle crash Tuesday morning.
Ralph Colbeth was traveling west on 260th Street, east of Highway 14, shortly after 10 a.m. when his vehicle moved toward the edge of the road and toppled over in a steep embankment, according to Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman.
Colbeth signaled for help by honking his horn, Hoffman said, but was pronounced dead on scene by UnityPoint Health paramedics. Colbeth was traveling near Rapha Reins Ranch, an equine learning facility, when the crash occurred.
"It's unknown why he left the roadway and there was no apparent reason he would," Hoffman said. "There was no apparent trauma or injury from the crash."
It has not been determined if the crash was caused by a medical condition. Hoffman said the medical investigation is turned over to Dr. David Bethel, county medical examiner, and the state medical examiner's office in Ankeny. Autopsy results are expected in roughly six weeks.
Colbeth would have turned 87 years old this month.
