Toledo ties to television continue

Michael Emerson stars in EVIL

Toledo native and award winning television actor Michael Emerson is at it again in a third, television mystery series. Evil began airing Sept. 26 on Thursday evenings on CBS.

In a social media post, Emerson wrote, “Very excited for you all to watch EVIL on CBS premiering September 26th. Remember to follow me on Twitter- @MichaelEmerson -and my newly made Instagram @officialmichaelemerson for behind-the-scenes, family photos, and other exciting projects I’m working on!”

CBS says of the new program, “Evil is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter as they investigate the Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and hauntings. ”

Emerson previously starred on TV in the programs Lost and Person of Interest.

Michael Emerson is the son of Carol and the late Ron Emerson who were long-time Toledo residents and is the grandson of the late Earl and LaRue Emerson, also Toledo natives. He is a 1972 graduate of South Tama High School and graduated from Drake University, Des Monies. in 1976 and received anMFA from the University of Alabama

He won Emmy awards as Best Supporting Actor for his role on Lost and for Best Guest Performance in a Dramatic Series, Law & Order, and The X-Files.

CBS TV quotes Variety Magazine as describing Emerson as “one of the greatest villains in television history.”

He has also appeared in motion pictures including The Legend of Zorro, The Imposters, Straight jacket, Saw and Ready? OK!

Cecilia Wilson’s quests advances on

Celicia Wilson, The Voice television show contestant with Toledo ties, “turned” three of the four judges on the NBC program on Tuesday night, Oct. 1. For those unfamiliar, “Blind Auditions” are conducted with aspiring singers performing while four judges (Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Blake Shelton) listen with their chairs turned around.

If a judge wishes to “coach” the singer in future performances leading to a an overall winner, they turn around then vie for the contestant to select them as coach.

Wilson chose Blake Shelton. Legend was the only judge not to turn around for Wilson.

Calicia’s hometown is Salen, iowa, and she now lives in Nashville, Tenn. and manages a kickboxing gym in Hendersonville, Tenn., where she’s an instructor.

The voice airs on NBC on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
