Man arrested for meth possession

Austin Leo Bollas, 25, Marshalltown, was arrested by Marshalltown Police Saturday for possession of controlled substance-marijuana first offense, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers with the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Iowa Avenue West. During the search, officers found a handgun, 4.77 grams of methamphetamine, numerous methamphetamine pipes and about 1 gram of marijuana in various locations throughout a room.

There were three subjects in the room, one of which was Bollas. Officers spoke with Bollas. He admitted being a methamphetamine dealer and made statements indicating the meth and gun found were his.

The case originated with Marshalltown Police earlier this year who arrested a female suspect and saw drugs in plain sight. They notified the task force with the information and it applied for the search warrant.

At his initial appearance Saturday, Bollas was appointed a public defender by a magistrate judge and ordered held on $10,000 cash or surety bond. He was also ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and provide the results to the court tighten 60 days.

His preliminary hearing is Dec. 2.
