Healthy Family Fair: An event for parents, kids

contributed photo Workers dressed as Dora and Diego are ready to greet people to the Healthy Family Fair.

It is not always easy to stay informed on how to care for oneself and one’s family. Child Abuse Prevention Services hopes to make this information easily accessible with the Healthy Family Fair.

Esmeralda Monroy of Child Abuse Prevention Services said their goal is to make it simple for families to learn about health and safety.

“Really it’s just an opportunity — to come to one easy place to get the support they need,” she said.

This year’s fair will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Marshalltown Community College Babe Harder Gym, 3700 S. Center St.

The fair has been held for 15 years and will include 30 businesses from the Marshalltown area. These include several daycares and preschools, healthcare providers and agencies such as YSS and Iowa Legal Aid. The event is free and provides families with information about health and safety.

There are also attractions specifically aimed at children, including a performance with fun experiments from Absolute Science, balloon animals, Marshalltown Community College cheerleaders and pictures with Dora and Diego.
