Man arrested on burglary charge

Schmidt

Logan Matthew Schmidt, 34, of Marshalltown, was arrested and taken to jail Monday on a warrant by a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputy on charges of second degree attempted burglary and fourth degree criminal mischief.

On Sunday, Schmidt attempted to commit burglary at a property on South Prairie Street Le Grand.

Also, Schmidt damaged a storm door and rear window at the property exceeding $300 but not more than $750.

At his initial appearance Tuesday, Schmidt was appointed a public defender by a magistrate judge and ordered held on $5,000 cash or surety bond. The magistrate also issued a no contact order against Schmidt protecting the victim.

Second degree attempted burglary is a Class D felony punishable by a maximum prison term not to exceed five years which may be deferred or suspended unless forcible felony. A fine of at least $750 but not more than $7,500 may be imposed.

Schmidt’s preliminary hearing is Feb. 28.
