Marshalltown police investigate fatal shooting

A 27-year-old is dead following a shooting early Sunday morning in Marshalltown.

Marshalltown police responded to a report of a critical shooting around 3:30 a.m. at a West Linn Street location.

Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old critically injured from multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was taken by Unity Point Ambulance to UnityPoint Health — Marshalltown where he died. The name of the victim is not being released pending family notification.

Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said officers responded to about 20 911 calls from witnesses who reported a gun was fired outside.

“There were multiple people at the scene,” Tupper said. “We are sorting through and talking to people about what happened.”

Tupper said he didn’t know how long the victim was at the hospital before he died.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting.

Tupper said there is no danger to the public stemming from the incident.
