The death of Jason Thiessen, 49, of Marshalltown is being investigated by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman, Thiessen’s body was found one-quarter of a mile away from the site of a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday.

A crash was reported at 6 a.m. Wednesday on Marsh Avenue north of Liscomb near the Hardin County line.

A 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck had sustained heavy damage and was found to be unoccupied. Sheriff’s deputies and Liscomb Fire responders searched the crash area and other measures were taken in an attempt to find and check the welfare of the driver. 

Liscomb Fire personnel found Thiessen’s body in a field. Preliminary information indicates Thiessen left the scene on foot and he traveled northeast cross country. The body was transferred to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. 

Thiessen was last seen at a residence in Whitten at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
