DES MOINES — During her Wednesday COVID-19 conference, Gov. Kim Reynolds said the recovery of Iowa is underway. She said movie theaters, swimming pools, museums, zoos, aquariums and wedding reception venues will be allowed to reopen Friday.

However, establishments must practice social distancing and increase hygiene practices.

Also on Friday, outdoor auctions with no more than 25 attendees will be allowed in Iowa.

Bars will be able to reopen on May 28, at 50 percent capacity.

Reynolds said school districts will be able to resume activities and learning on June 1.

Restrooms, showers and cabins in Iowa state parks will begin opening, but youth playgrounds, lodges and visitor centers will remain closed.

As of Wednesday at press time, Marshall County has 830 cases of COVID-19, a rise of 13 cases in 24 hours. There have been 423 residents who have recovered. The numbers on the Iowa Department of Public Health COVID-19 website are updated throughout the day.

Marshall County is in the top five of Iowa counties with the highest number of COVID-19 cases. The other counties with higher numbers are Polk with 3,221; Woodbury, 2,354; Black Hawk, 1,634; and Linn, 901.

Marshall County has two recorded outbreaks in long-term care facilities. The Iowa Veterans Home has had 32 positive cases of COVID-19, with 15 recovered and Accura HealthCare of Marshalltown has had 32 cases, with four recovered.

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) COVID-19 website has a page about serology tests conducted in the state. Serology tests detect antibodies formed by white blood cells in response to virus and bacteria. The tests are conducted on people who have recovered from COVID-19.

There have been 12,595 serology tests conducted statewide, eight of them were positive in Marshall County.

The IDPH reported 238 new cases on Wednesday. There are 15,534 positive cases in the state. Of those, 8,260 have recovered.

There are 381 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 126 are in intensive care units and 84 are on ventilators.

Also, 383 Iowans — seven from Marshall County –have died from COVID-19, with 16 deaths confirmed Wednesday.

The age group with the highest percentage of deaths — 46 percent — is 80 and older. The age group 61 to 80 has 42 percent of the deaths; 41 to 60, 10 percent; and 18 to 40, 2 percent.

Marshall County is in Regional Medical Coordination Centers Region 1 with 24 other counties. The most populous in the region is Polk.

In Region 1, 174 patients are in the hospital; 48 are in intensive care units and 32 are on ventilators.

There have been 110,214 tests conducted. Across the state, 472,045 Test Iowa assessments have been conducted — 1,705 in Marshall County.
