Accused murderer seeks different attorney

Muhammad
Accused murderer Mustafa Muhammad will make a court appearance on Monday. The hearing will be held remotely.
Marshall County Assistant Attorney Jordan Gaffney said Muhammad filed a hand-written request on July 15 for a different attorney. Muhammad, 30, is represented by Michael Adams of Des Moines. In the filing, Muhammad claimed there was a failure to contact and failure to discuss his case.
Muhammad is accused of first degree murder.
He was arrested for the fatal shooting of Blake Thomas, 27, on March 15. Thomas died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Muhammad, who is a felon, was also charged with possession of a firearm and reckless use of a firearm causing bodily injury. He pleaded not guilty to all three counts on April 5.
A jury trial is set for Aug. 25.
