Hospital is operational following storm

UnityPoint Health — Marshalltown experienced building damage at both the North and South campuses caused by the severe storm on Monday.

There were no injuries to patients or employees in the buildings, or interruptions to patient care at the hospital.

Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said he has received one report of a significant storm-related injury. A garbage truck was blown over by the wind and a tree fell on top of it. The person involved was transported by air ambulance.

The most significant damage at UnityPoint occurred at the South Campus surgery department. All procedures scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled.

The emergency department at the North Campus and the urgent care at the South medical park remain operational to treat acute illnesses and injuries.

The four UnityPoint Health Family Medicine locations in the area were affected, as well. Clinics in Marshalltown, Conrad and Tama-Toledo are all without power and phone service. The State Center clinic has power but no phone service.

UnityPoint Health — Marshalltown and the EMS team has called additional staffing to help provide care.
