Marshall County has first zero fatality week since June

At least 60 Iowa residents have died from COVID-19 this week. Fortunately none were reported in Marshall County.

According to USAfacts.org, there have been 64 new cases of COVID-19 which contrasts with the Iowa Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) COVID-19 website which reported 34 new cases of COVID-19.

USAfacts is reporting a total of 1,725 cases in Marshall County and IDPH is reporting a total of 1,729 cases.

Both organizations reported no deaths attributed to the virus this week in Marshall County, leaving the total of deaths in Marshall County at 32.

At least 1,185 Iowans have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March, according to USAfacts.org, while IDPH is reporting 1,207 overall deaths in Iowa from the virus.

Last week ended with 66,137 confirmed cases in Iowa and this week comes to a close with 71,137 cases — an increase of 5,000 in seven days.

Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, which had an outbreak of 81 positive cases of COVID-19 has been removed from the IDPH Long Term Care outbreak list. The Iowa Veterans Home still has cases with 14 positive cases and 10 recovered.

According to the IDPH data:

• Caucasians – 69 percent

• Latino – 15 percent

• Asian – 4 percent

• African American – 6 percent

• Native American – 1 percent

• Native Hawaiian – 1 percent

Sex:

• Male – 49 percent

• Female – 50 percent

Age:

• 18 to 40 – 49 percent

• 41 to 60 – 27 percent

• 61 to 80 – 12 percent

• 18 and younger – 7 percent

• 81 and older – 4 percent

Marshall County has the 12th highest number of COVID-19 cases in Iowa

The counties with higher numbers include:

• Johnson — 4,714

• Woodbury — 4,409

• Black Hawk — 4,103

• Linn — 3,388

• Story — 3,027

• Dallas — 2,532

• Scott — 2,431

• Dubuque — 2,281

• Buena Vista — 1,874

• Pottawattamie — 1,740
