Juvenile leads police on high-speed chase

A high-speed chase through Marshalltown ended 20 minutes after it began Tuesday evening.

The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and the Meskwaki Nation Police Department in apprehending the suspect who led the law enforcement agencies on a chase which reached 80 mph.

Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said it began at 9:30 p.m. at the corner of South Ninth and West Boone streets when an officer attempted a traffic stop for a suspected stolen vehicle. The automobile was a Chrysler Town & Country.

The chase ended at 9:51 p.m. at the 2400 block of Coppock Park Road east of town. Tupper said the suspect — a male juvenile — fled on foot and was apprehended in an open field. He has been taken to a juvenile detention facility.

“We are very thankful nobody got hurt,” Tupper said.
