Iowa is continuing to make strides in its rollout of the coronavirus vaccine, and is now outpacing many other states in administering the shots it has been allocated and received.

As of Monday afternoon, Iowa had administered at least 364,150 first doses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number that equals 63.7 percent of the prioritized population that’s eligible for the vaccine, and 11.5 percent of the state’s entire population.

At least 123,131 Iowans have now been fully vaccinated.

A total of 597,725 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to the state of Iowa, and a total of 456,512 doses, or 76 percent, have been administered, according to the CDC.

That’s a significant improvement from last Monday when the state had administered just 67 percent of the available vaccines.

There are now 14 other states with a lower percentage of their population that has received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Nationally, 38.3 million people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 6 million over last Monday. About 14.1 million people who have been fully vaccinated. That is an increase of almost 50 percent over last Monday’s nationwide total of 9.5 million.

At least 219 new cases of the virus were reported in Iowa on Sunday, according to the New York Times’ COVID-19 tracker. As was the case last Monday, no additional deaths were reported in Iowa. That appears to be the result of delayed or incomplete reporting of deaths that take place in Iowa over the weekend.

Over the past week, there has been an average of 667 new cases per day, a decrease of 26 percent from the average two weeks earlier.

During the past week in Iowa, virus-related hospitalizations fell 23.9 percent.

Among reported tests for the virus, the positivity rate in Iowa remains above 1-in-4, at 26.2 percent. The number of tests administered fell 11.3 percent from the previous week.

Currently, there are 35 active outbreaks in Iowa nursing homes, down from 43 seven days ago. The number of infections associated with the active outbreaks is 949.

To date, 2,137 Iowa nursing home residents have died of the virus; the state has refused to disclose the number of nursing home workers who have died of the virus.

Overall, there have been at least 329,454 cases of the virus, and 5,237 deaths, in Iowa since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the New York Times’ COVID-19 tracker.
