The Marshalltown Fire Department responded with Marshalltown Police Department and Unity Point EMS to 108 N. 11th Street to a reported house fire in the early morning hours on Sunday.
The fire was called in by a motorist. On arrival, size-up was completed and fire was visible on the first floor and in the attic at the rear of the building. No one was living in the home at this time.
Crews deployed two handlines and made an interior fire attack on the first floor. Crews were successful in extinguishing the main body of the fire, but the attic space was not accessible as the interior staircase had burned away.
Crews placed ladders at the second floor exterior windows and extinguished the fire in the attic from the outside.
Fire crews remained on scene for an hour and a half overhauling the building and extinguishing hot spots. No injuries were reported.
