Effective immediately, the Marshalltown COVID-19 mask-related mandates are rescinded.

Mayor Joel Greer, on Monday, issued a proclamation not only rescinding the mandates, but putting the following into immediate effect:

• People who are fully vaccinated may resume activities without masks.

• All residents are encouraged to follow guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control related to social distancing, hand washing and mask wearing.

• Everyone is urged to be considerate of others who are susceptible to the COVID-19 virus and its effects.

• People who have not been vaccinated are strongly encouraged to do so unless medical personnel have advised against it.

• Everyone is encouraged to be considerate and polite of others, whether they are wearing masks or not.

After the CDC eased COVID-19 guidelines on Thursday, Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie lifted the mask mandate for his town. On Friday, Greer began talking with City Administrator Jessica Kinser about what Marshalltown should do with the mandates. He wanted to gather more information and opinion from entities such as the Marshalltown Community School District, the Iowa Veterans Home and health care providers on what the best course of action should be.

Greer said he would make a decision on Monday.
