The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce have announced the recipients of its 2021 Community Impact Award

In 2008, the Chamber of Commerce introduced the Community Impact Award to recognize businesses, organizations or individuals making an impact on the landscape of Marshalltown.

Vic and Gayle Hellberg of Hellberg’s Jewelers were this year’s recipients of the award.

“Presenting this award strives to give the highest recognition possible for the actions our recipient has taken to have an impact on Marshalltown,” Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Chair Jill Lutes said during a video presenting the award at their annual meeting Wednesday.

“From donations to events such as after proms and the charity ball, to being heavily involved in the central business district and Main Street Iowa programs, the Hellberg family is a part of what makes Marshalltown unique and special,” Lutes said.

Most recently as co-chair of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fundraising Committee, Vic helped raise more than $1.3 million towards the restoration of the building.

Founded in 1898, Hellberg’s Jewelers has been a part of Marshalltown for 122 years.

“It’s been important that our family has really received a lot from the community over those 120 years and we’re very proud of both sides of that, thank you” Vic said as he and Gayle accepted the award.

He said he and Gayle were surprised and extremely honored to be chosen for the recognition.

Vic said throughout the businesses 122 year history, his family has always been willing to support the local community.

“Our community gives to us in our business, and it just seems right to return,” Vic said.
