IVH Commandant ‘relieved of duty’

Oujiri

Iowa Veterans Home Commandant Timon Oujiri was relieved of his duties on Wednesday, according to a statement from Pat Garrett, the communications director for Gov. Kim Reynolds.

Garrett confirmed IVH Division Administrator Penny Cutler-Bermudez is serving as acting commandant.

“Our office is not able to provide additional details at this time,” he said.

Oujiri was appointed commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home in May 2017. Prior to that, the position was held by retired Brig. Gen. Jodi Tymeson, who served as the commandant from October 2013 to May 2017. Oujiri is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

During his time as commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home, the largest nursing home in the state, Oujiri managed to successfully hold the COVID-19 pandemic mostly at bay.
