A 9-year-old child died after being pulled from the lake at Rock Creek State Park near Kellogg Saturday.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office was contacted about a child missing in the water near the beach area of the park at about 5:30 p.m. When first responders arrived at about 5:38 p.m., bystanders had pulled the child – who was later identified as Steven Streets of Melbourne – from the lake and were giving him CPR.

The DNR, Kellogg and Newton Fire and EMS and Jasper County Deputies responded to the scene and continued to provide care. Streets was then transported to a Des Moines Area hospital by helicopter.

On Monday, the Jasper County Sheriff's Office reported Streets had died.

In an Aug. 15 press release, the Sheriff's Office shared it's thoughts and prayers with Streets and his family.

"We would also like to thank those bystanders who provided help during this incident," the press release read.

The Sheriff's Office did not provide any further comment on the incident as of Tuesday's print deadline.
