Meetings scheduled to discuss future of Riverview Park

T-R FILE PHOTO - Marshalltown’s Riverview Park is pictured in an old aerial photo. Meetings to discuss the future of the recreational area have been scheduled for the next two Wednesdays.

Two community engagement meetings are scheduled for the public to share ideas about Riverview Park.

Hosted by the Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department, the meetings will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday and Oct. 12 at Reunion Hall in Riverview Park. Participants will be given an aerial map of the park to mark with their memories and ideas for future amenities.

Riverview Park is Marshalltown’s largest and most heavily used park since it was constructed in 1904. It is currently the home of a campground, dog park, disc golf course, shelter buildings, playgrounds, tennis court, basketball court, walking paths and bike trail access. It also featured a zoo in the 1920s and a swimming pool from 1921-2002.

The park has evolved over the last decade, especially due to the August 2020 derecho, which resulted in the removal of more than 400 trees.

Those who can not attend a meeting are still encouraged to submit feedback via a webpage on the Parks & Recreation Departments website — www.marshalltownparkandrec.com and use the link on the left of the page titled Riverview Park Community Input. For more information please call the Parks & Recreation Department at 641-754-5715 ext. 4.
