PHOTO COURTESY OF JASON WEGNER — A Larry’s Towing vehicle removed a Subaru SUV from the pond outside of the Fisher Community Center after the driver lost control on Tuesday morning. There were no injuries, but the vehicle is likely totaled.

A driver lost control of his SUV on W. Anson St. near Fareway and accidentally ended up in the pond outside of the Fisher Community Center Tuesday morning.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred at around 9:55 a.m., and Larry’s Towing of Marshalltown removed the car from the water. Crews from Alliant Energy and Centurylink arrived shortly after to repair damaged lines on the north side of W. Anson St.

Some nearby buildings, including the Marshalltown Police and Fire station, lost power as a result of the accident. Marshalltown Community School District Communications Director Adam Sodders confirmed that the high school building, located less than a mile from the community center, also experienced a power outage at about 10:00 a.m.

Marshalltown Police Lt. Sadie Weekley, who was on the scene, said the driver was transferred to the local hospital as a precautionary measure but was not injured, and she believes that his Subaru was totaled. The driver has not been publicly identified.

Cindy Tomlinson, the manager of external communications for Alliant Energy, said that about 400 customers lost power after the accident, but all but one had been restored by 11:00 a.m. The final customer had power again by the early afternoon on Tuesday.
