The Salvation Army receives gold bar in red kettle

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Once again the Red Kettle Campaign in progress through the Salvation Army has been blessed with a one-ounce gold bar anonymously dropped in the kettle at Hy-Vee.

The Salvation Army received a one-ounce gold bar in a kettle at Hy-Vee on Dec. 14. The gold bar has become a tradition in Marshalltown given in a kettle by an anonymous donor each year. This year the gold bar was dropped in a kettle being manned by Kaydie Walker.

The Salvation Army will sell the gold bar to a local vendor and the proceeds will go towards the Red Kettle Campaign goal. The value of the gold bar is yet to be determined however; The Salvation Army expects it to be a great deal to add to its goal.

As of Dec. 14, The Salvation Army had reached 35.21 percent of its $79,600 goal, significantly behind last year at this time.

The Salvation Army would like to publicly thank the generous donor who dropped the gold bar in the kettle on Dec. 14.
