The new death reported in the county is one of 161 recorded in the state in the last week. The total death toll is 8,019 in Iowa and more than 829,000 across the U.S.

Fifty-two percent of Iowa’s COVID related deaths have been among people 80 years old or older. Ninety-three percent of the dead had pre-existing conditions, though 590 people died without the presence of pre-existing conditions.

There were nearly twice as many positive tests reported this week than last week. In the last seven days, there have been 19,045 positive tests, 8,883 more than a week ago. Twenty-one percent of new positive tests were taken by adults between 18 and 29 years old, the most of any age group. The 40-49 age group represents 20 percent of positive tests. The rate of positive tests was 10 percent last week.

Hospitalizations remain high across the state as 792 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those patients, 157 were admitted in the last 24 hours, and 161 are in intensive care. Seventy-five percent of patients hospitalized with COVID are not fully vaccinated, and 82 percent of ICU patients are not fully vaccinated. Nineteen-percent of new admissions are between 70 and 79 years old, and 17 percent are 80 or older.

Young adults and children are also being hospitalized. Twenty-five children are in the hospital with COVID, including 14 who are 11 years old or younger. Among the hospitalized children, 20 are not fully vaccinated. Six adults between 18 and 19 years old and 40 adults between 20 and 29 years old are also hospitalized with COVID.

Twenty-five long term care facilities have active COVID outbreaks across the state. IDPH used to report what facilities had outbreaks and how many people were infected, but it has not carried this information for several months.

More than 4.5 million doses of COVID vaccines have been administered in Iowa, bringing the state’s vaccination rate to more than 59 percent for everyone 12 and older. Marshall County is 62 percent vaccinated among people 12 and older, including more than 75 percent of adults and 95 percent of adults 65 and older.
