Former Tama County Jail employee under investigation for sexual misconduct

TOLEDO — A spokesperson with the Iowa Attorney General’s Office confirmed earlier this week that a sexual misconduct investigation into a former employee at the Tama County Jail is under review.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) launched an inquiry in late January after a complaint was made against a former county employee who allegedly interacted inappropriately with an inmate.

The investigation was recently completed and handed off to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. The attorney general will now decide whether or not to press charges in the case.

As of Wednesday, no charges have been filed surrounding the incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, neither the attorney general’s office nor the sheriff’s office were able to provide details of the former employee in question or what exactly is alleged to have transpired between the employee and the inmate.

More details will be reported as they become available.
