UnityPoint Health announces open house, hospital move time frame

As UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown nears completion of its new hospital, it’s ready to share key dates associated with the transition.

The new hospital, which is the result of a $38.4 million expansion of the existing medical park on the south edge of the city, will be unveiled to the public in a Community Open House on Saturday, April 23, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The event will begin with a short ribbon-cutting ceremony before members of the community tour the facility, enjoy refreshments and giveaways, and enter a drawing for a FitBit or a children’s bike.

The open house also marks a midway point in the transition to the new campus, which is located at 55 UnityPoint Way (formerly Central Iowa Drive) and just south of the intersection of Highways 30 and 14. Departments that don’t rely on UnityPoint Health’s support services begin moving to the new facility on April 21, while the remaining departments make the move between April 25 and 27.

Of special importance is the emergency department, which will switch to seeing patients exclusively from the new hospital on April 27 at 7 a.m. The inpatient unit and its team members and patients also make the move to the new hospital on April 27.

UnityPoint Health has begun communicating details about the move with patients. Patients who still have questions about the move and how it may affect scheduled appointments are encouraged to reach out to that department or clinic for more information.
