T-R PHOTO BY ROBERT MAHARRY The Marshall County Elections Center, located at 107 S. First Ave. in Marshalltown, will serve as the in-person early voting site for the primary election. The early voting period begins on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning, the early voting period for the June 7 primary election is officially underway for local, state and federal races.

Marshall County Assistant/Deputy Auditor and Recorder Jessica Chizek explained a few steps that voters who wish to cast a ballot before election day need to take to make sure they are counted. All in-person early voting for Marshall County residents, regardless of their regular polling places, will be conducted at the Marshall County Elections Center at 107 S. First Ave. in Marshalltown.

Vote by mail requests must be made before 5 p.m. on May 23, and May 23 is also the last day to pre-register to vote. A photo ID is required to vote, and if the address is not current, voters will be required to show a piece of mail or some other way to prove their address.

Early voting will be available from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. On Friday, June 3, it will be open until 5 p.m., and on Saturday, June 4, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After closing on June 5, June 6 will be the last day to early vote before election day. It will be closed for Memorial Day on May 30.

Anyone with questions on early voting is encouraged to call the Marshall County Elections Department at (641) 754-6302 or visit the Marshall County Auditor Facebook page.
