T-R shifts to postal delivery
Beginning Monday, the Times-Republican will be delivered by the US Postal Service, adding more than half of our subscriber base to mail routes.
While this does mean some newspapers will not arrive as early in the day as we have tried to deliver it, the T-R will arrive conveniently, reliably and securely with the rest of your mail. If you want to get a jumpstart on reading your news, a subscription allows unlimited access to our website, which includes a digital replica of the newspaper.
This decision is not one we have made lightly. Many publications have relied on mail service for years as an effective means for delivery. As our local workforce continues to evolve, we struggle to consistently find carriers and fill routes. Fewer people are willing to take the early shift, especially in the dead of winter or downpouring rain. Key leaders are also required to manage a complex system to efficiently design routes, provide customer service and daily support to our carriers.
It is also, no doubt, the end of an important era of paperboys and newspaper carriers for the Times-Republican. The delivery of the T-R has been a time-honored tradition, one in which many families participated in. Because of the large number of carriers throughout the years, I often hear about experiences from former carriers. And it’s always a delight. The stories are sometimes coming of age and always genuine and heartfelt — some are even heroic. We are proud of our rich history and we hope you continue to tell those stories.
