Six arrests made in connection with burglary

After several weeks of investigation, six arrests were made in connection with a June 18 burglary on the 700 block of South Third Avenue, and all individuals have been charged.

According to a press release from the Marshalltown Police Department, a concerned citizen reported the burglary around 4 a.m. on June 18, and when officers arrived on the scene, five 16-year-old juvenile males and one adult male, Alexis Christian Fernandez-Ibarra, 18, were located in the area. While those six individuals were considered suspects in the crime, they were not charged at the time.

Upon completion of the investigation, the MPD determined that the six individuals were responsible for causing $33,217.83 in damage to the building and vehicles on the property, and they were subsequently arrested.

Fernandez-Ibarra was charged with first degree criminal mischief, a class C felony, third degree burglary, a class D felony and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a simple misdemeanor. Fernandez-Ibarra was taken to the Marshall County Jail.

The five juvenile males were each charged with first degree criminal mischief and third degree burglary, and they were transported to a juvenile detention center.
