STATE CENTER — A State Center man was pronounced dead after a structure fire at 508 Fourth Ave. SW early Thursday morning.

According to a press release from the State Center Police Department, personnel from the State Center Fire Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a structure fire at 1:05 a.m. Upon arriving they observed heavy smoke and fire, and 31-year-old Wyatt Michael Varnum of State Center was found inside of the trailer.

Varnum received medical attention on the scene but was later pronounced dead. Along with the SCFD and the MCSO, the Colo Fire Department also responded to the fire, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Division of Criminal Investigation and the SCPD assisted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
