Crash on Highway 330 claims life of Albion man

A collision between a passenger vehicle and a tractor on Highway 330 on Saturday morning left the operator of the tractor dead, according to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The report indicated that a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 22-year-old Morgan Weiglet of Albion was southbound on Highway 330 when it rear ended a tractor operated by 86-year-old Clarence Borton, also of Albion. Borton had turned out of a private driveway, and after his tractor was hit, it left the roadway and overturned in the ditch.

Borton fell off the tractor when it overturned and “sustained injuries that resulted in his death at the scene.” According to the report, both Weiglet and a passenger, Dylan S. Dare of Albion, also sustained injuries. No criminal charges have been filed.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol with the crash investigation, and the roadway was closed and traffic rerouted for several hours while a technical investigation was conducted, according to a release from the MCSO.

The case remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Albion Fire and EMS, Liscomb EMS, UnityPoint Ambulance, and the Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office all assisted on the scene.
