Cruise for a Cause returns to Glenwood Place

T-R FILE PHOTO — Cruise for a Cause, Glenwood Place’s annual free will Alzheimer’s fundraiser car show, is happening next Thursday night beginning at 5 p.m. Last year’s event, pictured, broke a record with over $4,000 raised.

Glenwood Place’s annual Cruise for a Cause car show in the assisted living facility’s parking lot has grown bigger and bigger in each of its five years of existence, and of course, that just means Community Relations Coordinator Brooke Davis will be aiming even higher in 2023.

After raising over $4,000 during the 2022 show, this year’s event is set for next Thursday night, June 8, at Glenwood Place (2907 S. 6th St.) beginning at 5 p.m. with a goal of raising $5,000.

“We’ve had a steady increase, and of course the primary purpose is to raise money for Alzheimer’s. We are active fundraisers for them throughout the year. We’ve done golf outings and garage sales, but this is our primary event for the year,” Davis said.

There are no registration fees and no entry fees. Everything runs entirely on free will donations, with a meal served and a performance from local favorite band Exit 185, who will be playing from 6 to 8 p.m. Davis said some people will drop by and drop a $1 or $5 bill in the jar, while others will write checks for $300 or more.

“We do way better with free will offering,” Davis said. “Everyone’s invited. You don’t have to have a classic car to come. Just come and enjoy music and make a donation towards the Alzheimer’s association.”
