An as-yet-unidentified woman is dead after a shooting in Marshalltown on Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 4:30 p.m., public safety personnel responded to 607 E. Church St. in Marshalltown after the Marshall County 911 Communications Center received a call about a shooting. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult female, age 57, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Law enforcement also found an adult male, age 72, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and he was taken to UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown before he was subsequently transported to a Des Moines hospital for emergency medical treatment with a life-threatening injury.

The investigation of this incident is continuing. Law enforcement did recover a firearm at the scene and is not actively looking for any other involved parties. There is no information or evidence available that indicates any danger exists for the general public.
