With less than a week to go until the annual Fourth of July fireworks show at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds, the fundraising committee is about $2,500 short of the $21,000 needed to cover the cost of the fireworks.
According to committee member and City Councilor Mike Ladehoff, they have already received major contributions from the city of Marshalltown ($5,000), Marshall County ($2,000), JBS and the UFCW (a joint $3,000 donation), Emerson ($3,000), MARSHALLTOWN Co. ($500), the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce ($2,000 through the hotel/motel tax), $1,000 in private individual contributions from city councilors and the mayor, $1,800 in private donations through the Marshalltown Central Business District and $200 from UAW Local 893.
Ladehoff and fellow committee member Luisa Ortega recommended dropping checks off to Deb Millizer at the MCBD office at 16 E. Main St. with the memo "Fourth of July Fireworks" or calling Ladehoff at (641) 750-9863 to arrange a donation. Ortega is hopeful the community will continue to support the fireworks show in the future and thanked the sponsors who have already stepped up to help make it possible.
The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m. with live music from Paul Davis, the Marshalltown Municipal Band and Final Mix beforehand, and the doors will be open at 4 p.m. Food vendors and kids activities will also be available at the fairgrounds.
