Marshalltown man dies after falling off dock at Rock Creek State Park
KELLOGG — Jasper County authorities have identified 76-year-old Larry Conner of Marshalltown as the man who died after falling off a fishing dock at Rock Creek State Park near Kellogg early Sunday morning.
According to a press release, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a 911 call just a few minutes after midnight from a reporting party who indicated they heard a male subject yelling for help near the park’s west side boat ramp.
An Iowa DNR officer arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male patient. The officer requested medical assistance, and Kellogg Fire/EMS, Newton Fire/EMS, Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist. Mercy One Helicopter was also requested and landed at the scene.
The medical intervention was unsuccessful, and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation indicated that two people were fishing together, and Conner fell off the dock into the water. The second subject called for help and was able to get Conner out of the water.
The Jasper County Medical Examiner and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner are assisting in the investigation.
