Gary Powers Jr., the son of Cold War U-2 spy pilot Francis Gary Powers, will make two appearances in Marshalltown next week, one at the Rotary Club’s noon meeting on Tuesday and another at the Marshalltown Public Library on Wednesday.

Powers will speak at the Noon Rotary meeting held at the Elmwood Country Club, followed by an appearance at the library for a presentation abo`ut his father’s experience during the Cold War on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the library’s community meeting rooms. One of the most talked about incidents of the Cold War was the downing of the American U-2 spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers, Sr. on May 1, 1960.
