Four Marshalltown youths graduated from Marine Cadets of Iowa Recruit Training on July 15 at Camp Dodge, Johnston. They include Luis Armenta, Pedro Gonzalez, Elyziah Harrelson and Eric Sanchez.
"These four young men excelled in this training environment," said Eric Goslinga, executive director of MCI. "They all worked incredibly hard, overcame obstacles and challenges and grew in confidence and in skills over the course of training. Their families and the broader community can be proud of how they conducted themselves."
Cadets experience a military-like system of structured training, communal living and discipline over the course of the two weeks of training. Cadets completed training in such areas as customs and courtesies, military history, aquatic training, physical fitness testing and drill and ceremony. Cadets also completed the Camp Dodge Confidence Course and Leadership Reaction course.
"This is one of the most challenging things a teengager in Iowa can do," said Goslinga. "I am proud of how these young men handled themselves."
Marine Cadets of Iowa is a youth leadership and character development organization that serves motivated youth ages 12-18. Marine Cadets of Iowa Vision Statement "Prepare all cadets, through an unparalleled culture of excellence in all that we do, to become empowered to be career/college ready adults."
