‘Reveille’ arrives on Amazon Prime today

A World War II drama that included contributions from several area actors, producers and camera workers is hitting one of the largest streaming platforms on the planet today.

“Reveille,” which chronicles a little known battle between the U.S. and Germany in Italy in 1943, features Wellsburg resident Bernd Wittneben as German Squad Leader Walter Brander (he also served as a producer on the project) and BCLUW graduate and MCC student Lane Schnathorst in a smaller acting role as an American soldier. The film, written and directed by Michael Akkerman, is available on Amazon Prime after winning several independent film awards at festivals around the world for its gritty and unflinching depiction of the harsh realities of war.

In addition to Wittneben and Schnathorst, MCC alum and aspiring filmmaker Dillon Jacobson worked as a camera operator, and Jorg Rochlitzer, a professor at Ellsworth Community College who, like Wittneben, calls Wellsburg home (and, also like Wittneben, immigrated to the U.S. from Germany), served as a producer. Grant Gale of Marshalltown was also involved as a cameraman, and MCC Professor Steve Muntz ran b-role and supervised the students on set.

A trailer for “Reveille” was shot in Iowa Falls, but the full length feature was filmed in Missouri’s Ozark Mountains near the town of Sparta.
