The fund to purchase, train and maintain the Marshall County's Sheriff's Office first K-9 grew Wednesday, when Thompson True Value of Marshalltown donated $750. Shown at the store before turning over two checks were from left, Marshall County Sheriff Joel Phillips, store owner-operator Dave Thompson, deputy and K-9 handler Tanner Hunt and KFJB/KIX-101 Owner Todd Steinkamp. Thompson applied a portion from the sales of gas barbecue grills to support the fund. Additionally, he presented Phillips with a separate check of $20 from a resident who wished to be anonymous. Phillips and Hunt were ecstatic to receive the donations. "We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from residents on this fund-raising initiative," Phillips said. "Tanner and our new K-9 Bosco depart Monday for Minneapolis for training. Once their training is complete, our ability to serve and protect county residents will be enhanced." As of July 30, the sheriff's department had received $107,000 in donations, surpassing the fundraising goal of $85,000.
