An hour-long Prayer Gathering for Marshalltown Schools will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Vineyard Christian Fellowship.
Hosted by the Fellowship of Marshalltown Area Churches, people will gather to focus on five prayer points:
• Schools;
• Neighborhoods;
• Parents and families;
• School administrations and staff and;
• Students.
Member Cindy Soderberg said the gathering is open to the public. Schools are the focus of the gathering because of students going back to classes again, she said.
"It's just to have someone to share your heart with, concerns with, kind of a sounding board," she said. "We share and then have a time for praying."
Soderberg said different pastors will get up and pray about two different prayer points. Three of the points will be focused on by smaller groups of attendees. Worship songs will be provided in between prayers.
"It's a night for area churches to come together in one accord and pray for our community and our surrounding area," she said. "This night, specifically, is to pray for all schools in the area."
Soderberg said similar prayer gatherings are held quarterly. The gathering in June focused on marriages and families and attracted 100 attendees, but the Ukraine war is what prompted the quarterly events. She said they wanted to pray for people involved and refugees coming here, and added the importance of people to come together, regardless of church affiliation.
"We can be so much more effective if we all come together as the body of Christ, whether it be a school fundraiser, prayer night, whatever activity it is, we're all better when we work together," Soderberg said. "That's the idea of it."
