Two Marshall County restaurants cited for health violations

Two Marshall County restaurants were cited for violations by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals on Sept. 8 following routine inspections.

Lillie Mae Chocolates, 217 N. 13th St., was cited for two violations:

Employee reporting agreements were not available in the food truck. It was fixed when copies of the agreements were retrieved from the 13th Street District location.

There were no written procedures for clean-up of vomit and diarrhea in the food truck. This was also fixed when copies were obtained from the store.

Lillie Mae’s was previously cited for three violations in November 2020.

Pitchfork, 2925 Price Way, Laurel, was cited for five violations:

Employees were not informed of symptom and diagnosis reporting responsibilities.

An employee handled a cash payment with gloved hands, threw the gloves away and put on a new pair without washing their hands. The food inspector intervened and the employee then followed the proper procedure.

Sausages prepared that morning had a temperature of 60 degrees that afternoon. They were thrown away, and sausages were removed from the menu.

In the refrigerator, pickle wraps had a temperature of 49 degrees and watermelon puree sauce had a temperature of 51 degrees. According to Iowa code, these foods must be kept at 41 degrees or cooler when not being prepared.

The handwashing sink did not have running water. A temporary hand washing station was set up.

Pitchfork was previously cited for one violation in November 2022 and one violation in September 2022.
