In-person absentee voting underway in Marshall County

Marshall County residents who are eager to get to the polls and cast their ballots before election day Nov. 7 can now do so at the Election Center (old fire station) at 107 S. First Ave. in Marshalltown.

With a number of important city and school seats up for grabs across the county, including a pair of Marshalltown city council races, a bond issue for a new fire station in State Center and a major bond issue in the BCLUW school district (which has some territory within the county), election officials are gearing up for another busy cycle.

Marshall County Auditor/Recorder Nan Benson noted that because ballots are not counted immediately, Iowa’s system is not considered true “early voting,” but rather in-person absentee voting. An ID is required.

Voting will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., open until 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 (the last day to pre-register to vote and drop off absentee ballot requests forms for ballots to be mailed). Voting will also be open until 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, and Monday, Nov. 6 is the last day to vote absentee in person.
