T-R, local organizations team up to continue honoring area veterans

Wanatee Accounting is sponsoring the display.

The Marshalltown Central Business District’s popular veterans banners hung around town are about to come down for the winter, but Times-Republican readers will still be able to see them thanks to a partnership between the newspaper, the MCBD, Marshall County Veterans Affairs and Wanatee Accounting.

Every day, smaller versions of the banners will be printed as part of an advertisement in the T-R until all 125 have been showcased, and in recognition of this joint effort, Managing Editor Robert Maharry, General Manager Rhonda James and Marketing Representative Leslie Ruby recently presented a $1,500 check to MCBD Executive Director Deb Millizer and Marshall County VA Director Kevin Huseboe on Monday afternoon to benefit area veterans causes.

Wanatee Accounting also came on board as a sponsor of the initiative because owner Lisa Buhr’s father served in the military, and she saw it as a way to honor him.

“It is always heartening when people come together to give recognition to our veterans.

Thank you to Deb Millizer and Kevin Huseboe for taking time to collaborate on this great project,” T-R Publisher Terry Christensen said. “A special thanks goes to Lisa at Wanatee Accounting, who agreed to sponsor the veterans banners in the pages of Times Republican.”

So look out for the banners in upcoming editions of the newspaper, and as always, continue to thank veterans for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf.
