20-year-old arrested for attempted murder


Ktwo Esa, 20, of Marshalltown, was arrested Tuesday for attempted murder.

On Monday morning, Marshalltown Police Department officers and medical personnel were dispatched to the 200 Block of North First Avenue for a reported assault. A 30-year-old female reported a male came to her residence and began assaulting her with a bat, striking her in the arms and head. A 75-year-old male bystander witnessed the assault, intervened and was also struck with the bat in the arm. The female victim was transported to the Unity Point Emergency Room by ambulance and has been released.

The investigation identified Esa as a suspect. A search warrant was executed at 549 North Third St., and Esa was located and taken into custody.

He has been charged with attempt to commit murder, a class B felony and two counts of willful injury, a class D felony. The charges are only accusations and Esa is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted by the Marshalltown Fire Department and Unity Point EMS during this incident.
