T-R PHOTOS BY JAKE RYDER — The Karen community, an ethnic group from Burma, hosted a New Year’s celebration at the Impala Ballroom on Monday. A crowd gathered in the ballroom for a morning program featuring playing of the Karen and U.S. national anthems, a reading on the history of the Karen New Year, a short story of the Karen flag, words of encouragement and gratitude, as well as music and dancing. At the conclusion of the program, attendees enjoyed a free meal.
