Three finalists announced for Marshalltown fire chief position

Three finalists have been announced for the Marshalltown Fire Chief position as longtime current Chief David Rierson prepares to retire soon. One candidate comes from within the department, and two are currently serving in other communities.

Brian Giachino has been with the city of Cedar Rapids as a battalion chief since 2007 (on an interim basis from 2007 to 2009 and permanently since 2009). In addition, he has held roles as a trainer, fire consultant, college adjunct instructor and Urban Search and Rescue Operations Chief.

Curtis Raue has served the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) since 2010, working his way up from firefighter/EMT to lieutenant and, since 2022, captain. He is also a member of the Toledo Volunteer Fire Department, holding positions as a firefighter, lieutenant and current captain, and serves as a substitute teacher in the South Tama County Community School District.

Gabe Rose, the only current chief among the finalists, has held that title with the city of Keokuk since 2011. Before that, he served as a firefighter and fire investigator/inspector in Keokuk beginning in 1995.

A public meet and greet will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Police and Fire Building at 909 S. 2nd St.
