Three finalists announced for MCC provost position

The Iowa Valley Community College District has announced three finalists for the Marshalltown Community College Provost position. The public is invited to meet the candidates during open forums at the college with a virtual option available. Attendees will be asked to provide feedback on the candidates after the open forums.

Todd Ecklund will visit campus Thursday, Feb. 29. Ecklund has 16 years of higher education experience and is currently the District Executive of the Sioux Council Boy Scouts of America in Sioux Falls, S.D. He has worked at four community colleges including Northwest Iowa Community College and Redlands Community College in Oklahoma. He earned his Ph.D. in Education in Adult and Higher Education at the University of South Dakota. An open forum is scheduled during his visit from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions Conference Center, 3702 S. Center St., Marshalltown. Matt Schmit will visit campus Tuesday, March 5. Schmit has 12 years of higher education experience and is the Executive Director of Economic Development and Dean of Manufacturing and Trades at Eastern Iowa Community College in Davenport. He has held several positions at Eastern Iowa Community College and previously worked at Dohrn Transfer & Logistics in Rock Island, Ill. He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Iowa State University. Albert Farr will visit campus Friday, March 8. Farr has 21 years of higher education experience and is the Interim Executive Dean of Campus Operations at DMACC in Des Moines. He has held several positions at DMACC and also worked at St. Petersburg College in Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Iowa State University. Longtime MCC Provost Robin Shaffer Lilienthal announced her early retirement in December. She has served the district for 23 years. Her last day will be June 30, 2024.
