Wrong way driver dead after Highway 330 accident

A Marshalltown woman who was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 330 in rural Marshall County was pronounced dead after a two-vehicle wreck on Thursday morning, according to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:59 a.m., the Marshall County 911 Communications Center received multiple calls of a wrong-way driver going southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 330 south of Highway 30. Less than a minute later, they received calls of a crash near the 18-mile marker. Deputies arrived on the scene and requested assistance from the Iowa State Patrol. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, 59-year-old Jennifer Robb of Marshalltown, was pronounced deceased at the scene, but the driver of the other vehicle, 44-year-old Heith Meyer of Iowa Falls, was uninjured.

The State Patrol accident report indicates that Meyer, who was in the left lane northbound, took evasive action and attempted to steer away from Robb, but the two vehicles sideswiped head-on from opposite directions.

The crash is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol Technical Investigators. Deputies were assisted by Iowa DOT maintenance, Iowa State Patrol, Lifeflight, the Marshall County Communications Center, the Marshalltown Fire Department, Melbourne Fire and EMS, and UnityPoint Ambulance.

The press release indicates that further inquiries should be directed to the Iowa State Patrol.
