A ‘scramble’ of Easter events scheduled next week

The unexpectedly heavy Friday morning winter storm might have caused the cancellation of the downtown Mosaic Church Easter event today, but plenty more remain next weekend.

A big event which is new to Marshalltown, will take place at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds, 1308 E. Olive St. Organized by Jake Rowley with United Cajun Navy, the Marshall County Egg Drop will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 30

“This is going to be the biggest Easter event Marshalltown has ever seen,” he said.

The Egg Drop starts with a Bounce House Park courtesy of Exterior + Home Remodeling.

“We’re going to have 17 bounce houses,” Rowley said.

A traditional Easter egg hunt will be held at 1 p.m. However, the finale of the event will be the drop of more than 7,000 eggs at 3:30 p.m. from an Iron Horse Aviation helicopter. The process of arranging that aspect of the event took the most work. Rowley said they had to speak with the Federal Aviation Administration and get the flight plan approved.

“It’s going to fly down to 50 feet and drop the eggs,” he said.

Additional sponsors of the Marshall County Egg Drop are Members 1st Community Credit Union, Spokes N Locs Car Club, Scooter’s Coffee, Wanatee Accounting Services, REMAX Partners, Mid Iowa Lawn Maintenance, Walmart and Midnight Ballroom.
