Democrat Ryan Condon announces candidacy for House District 51

Condon

NEVADA — Ryan Condon, a Democrat from Nevada, has announced his candidacy for House Representative for Iowa District 51. As current Rep. Dave Deyoe (R-Nevada) plans to retire, Condon will be running against either Brett Barker or Martin Chitty, both Republicans from Nevada, to represent Story and Marshall counties.

“I want to return the government to regular citizens, no more lobbyists and career politicians making decisions only to enrich themselves and their donors. The governor and legislature have made decisions against the will of Iowans, banning books, restricting women’s healthcare, enacting school vouchers against the voters will, and taking away local control from our communities. We have to do better,” Condon said.

Ryan has been married to Marilyn Condon for 21 years, and they have four boys, Jack, Jake, Jonah, and Jett. They have lived in Nevada for the last 16 years. Ryan is also the Pack Leader for the Cub Scout Pack 128 in Nevada and has been for the last 12 years.

He is involved in the Food at First programs, which helps feed Iowans in need, without questions or judgment. He is also a veteran of the Iowa National Guard who earned the highest honor available to guardsmen, the Medal of Faithful Service. He was deployed to the Sinai Peninsula as a member of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003.

A graduate of Iowa State University, he is an employee of the State of Iowa Health and Human Services as an Income Maintenance Worker II, determining eligibility for Iowa’s food assistance, Medicaid and Cash assistance programs. Prior to that he worked as a Child Support Recovery Officer, locating and enforcing child support and paternity orders.

“In my current position, I see how everyday Iowans are struggling, and can help develop

solutions to those problems,” he said. “Workers like myself are on the ground, talking about these problems with Iowans and trying to make their lives better. Actions by bureaucrats have far reaching effects that they don’t consider.”
